how this stunning Japanese musician enjoys his music during the pandemic MICKEY is an established musician of a Japanese rock band, Family Plan.
He’s been the lead vocalist for 50 years, entertaining audience worldwide.
“Many people think it’s easy to form a band, many young people think if you learn 3 chords you think you are musicians, but doing music is much more. In order to survive and pay the rent with music, you need to listen to major label recording companies, but balancing creating your favorite music and caring about commercialization is difficult.” He says.
His band Family Plan has maintained their friendship, passion, and love for music for 50 years,
and stands out in a very unique way within Tokyo’s competitive music scene.
Like other bands, Family Plan also went through many journeys throughout the last half century.
They didn’t let major labels or management companies affect their unique talent.
They have always been free spirits and their bond of friendship is beautiful to behold.
It’s been difficult to face this virus, and I don’t think this virus will disappear.
But musicians have to express themselves no matter what.
So we have to keep performing, searching for what we can do.
We started live streaming during this pandemic,
and we have way more audiences worldwide than before.
I appreciate this technology and network online.
I think it’s important that I feel comfortable.
I don’t decide what to write, I will go with the flow and trust my intuition.
Quite often I feel the god of music supports me and tells me what to write.
I don’t like my band being categorized, because we are versatile.
We create all sorts of music, not just rock.
For example, my friend Jiro composed the song “The girl I loved”, and 30 years later I added lyrics.
We always follow our hearts and make music based on our intuitions.
Family Plan is always looking for something and cherish each moment spent with their best friends.
After 50 years, they don’t seem to be stopping their journey yet!
